Moving mailboxes and files is the easy part, and it is where many migrations stop. What gets missed is everything around it: licences nobody needed, a SharePoint structure that mirrors the mess of the old file server, Teams sprawl with no ownership, and security settings sitting at their permissive defaults because enabling them was never anyone's job.
We treat the configuration as the actual work. The migration is a scheduled event; the value is in what the environment looks like afterwards — right-sized licences, a file structure people can navigate, and security controls that are switched on.
That last point matters more than most businesses realise. Microsoft 365 ships with a number of important protections disabled by default, including several that directly prevent business email compromise. A migration that does not address them delivers the same risk posture in a new location.

Yes, and this is one of the most consequential misunderstandings in cloud. Microsoft protects its own infrastructure — it does not protect your data from accidental deletion, malicious deletion by a departing employee, or ransomware encrypting synced files. Retention periods are limited and are not a backup. We deploy third-party backup for Microsoft 365 as standard.
Several that matter significantly — multi-factor authentication is not enforced by default on many plans, legacy authentication protocols that bypass MFA often remain enabled, external mail forwarding is permitted, and unified audit logging may be off. Each is a documented route to business email compromise, and each is closed during our hardening step.
Frequently, yes. Licence audits commonly find accounts for departed staff still active, users on higher tiers than their role requires, and duplicate subscriptions for tools already included in an existing plan. The audit is part of the migration rather than a separate exercise.and consistent security standards at every location.
